The Assembly Archive is the responsible body for collecting, sorting and cataloguing national records of the Church, answering research enquiries, promoting research and publication of the history of the Uniting Church and its parent churches and advising on appropriate methods of record keeping.
- increase awareness of the need to preserve and catalogue the records of the Assembly and its agencies;
- collect all records of the Assembly and its agencies for inclusion in the Assembly archives;
- catalogue and properly conserve all collected material;
- answer research enquiries;
- promote research and publication of the history of the Uniting Church and its parent churches;
- advise on appropriate methods of record keeping.
Located in NSW, the Assembly uses the Mitchell Library as the main repository for the national records of the Church. The Archivist is responsible for collecting, sorting and cataloguing the available material before it is sent. The Beneficiary Fund records remain in Melbourne, while those of the Australian Inland Mission and Frontier Services are housed at the National Library in Canberra.
