How do I join the Library?

If you'd like to join the Library, you can visit us in person, ring us on (02) 8838 8940, or e-mail us at library@nswact.uca.org.au.

Alternatively, you can complete and submit an online membership form    Become a Library Member

Library membership is free for Uniting Church members and employees, and students studying at United Theological College. Members of the general public and students from other colleges need to pay a membership fee of $200 per calendar year if they wish to borrow resources.

What can I borrow from the Library?

The Library has a range of books and other printed material available for loan, including a growing Korean Language collection.

Each Academic Session we create a short term loan collection (Reserve) which contains books needed by students who are studying courses.

Reference books and journals are available for use in the Library but may not be borrowed.

How many items may I borrow?

Generally, you may borrow a maximum of 10 items at one time.

For how long are items issued?

Most items are lent for three weeks. However, books from the Reserve collection are generally only issued for 3 days. Some Reserve books that are in high demand, may only be used in the Library.

Can I renew my loans?

Yes, items may be renewed twice. However, a renewal will not be possible if the item has been requested by another borrower.

Items may be renewed in the following ways --

  • in person at the Circulation Desk,
  • by telephone (8838 8940)
  • by e-mail (library@nswact.uca.org.au)
  • by logging into Revelation using your Borrower Barcode

Are there fines for overdue items?

We ask you to ensure that items are returned on time so as not to inconvenience other borrowers. We send an e-mail prompting you to renew your books a couple of days before they are due back.

Failure to return or renew a borrowed item by the Due Date will result in fines being levied and may also result in loss of borrowing privileges. Once an item is overdue, fines are automatically levied by the Circulation system:

  • Reserve collection $1 per day after 1 day
  • Other items $1 per day after 7 days

I can't get to the Library when it's open. How can I borrow books?

We are happy to post resources to people who are unable to physically access the Library, on the understanding that you will cover the costs of Return postage.

If you would like to have items posted to you, please contact the Library

Can I request a hold on an item?

If the book you need is out on loan, you may Request a Hold on it via Revelation, and we will contact you when the book is available for you to borrow. Items will be held for 7 days, after which the item will be loaned to the next person in the queue, or returned to the collection for other users to access. We are unable to provide 'Holds' for books which are available on the shelves.

It’s important to ensure we have your current e-mail address so that we can keep in touch with you when an item becomes available.
